Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position after a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his team in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell like this with performances this poor.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to the top, prove again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
